Quality control

Quality is documented from incoming material to release

Every unit follows an inspection and test plan: material certificates, dimensional checks, welding and coating records, integrated system tests and a signed release. The ITP is the working document behind the finish.

01The working document

The ITP is the contract inside the factory

An Inspection and Test Plan names each activity, the reference document, the acceptance criterion, the record and who must witness it. It is issued for the project, not copied from a brochure.

The production template is adapted to the product type: pre-engineered building, demountable container or panelized building. The issued revision follows the destination code, the customer specification and the factory that will build the unit.

Where a project requires third-party inspection, the same ITP becomes the interface with the inspector: notification, hold points, witness signatures and closure of findings.

Responsibility codesH / W / R
H

Hold

Work stops until the QA/QC representative attends and signs.

W

Witness

The inspector is notified; the activity may proceed if they do not attend.

R

Review

Documents and records are reviewed before the next stage.

01 / Scope

Document approval, material approval and incoming inspection are reviewed before production starts.

02 / Evidence

Each checkpoint produces a named record. The record set becomes the Manufacturing Data Record.

02Control gates

Six gates from drawing to dispatch

The sequence separates design intent, material identity, fabrication quality, envelope protection, system integration and release. A failed gate creates a nonconformance before the next stage begins.

01Before cut

Design and document control

The project ITP is frozen against approved drawings, calculations, the material list and the code basis for the destination market.

  • Approved drawing and revision register
  • Structural and system calculations
  • Approved material and supplier list
  • Inspection and test plan with H/W/R codes
02Gate 02

Incoming material and traceability

Steel, panels, coatings, doors, electrical equipment and cooling components are checked against the purchase order before they enter production.

  • Mill certificate, CoC and heat number
  • Visual, dimensional and quantity check
  • Label, batch and storage condition
  • Nonconformance quarantine
03Gate 03

Forming, welding and dimensional control

Cutting, bending, drilling and welding are inspected against the drawing, with welding procedure and welder qualification records retained.

  • Profile, hole and bend dimensions
  • WPS, PQR and welder qualification
  • AWS D1.1 visual and magnetic particle testing
  • Frame squareness and diagonal check
04Gate 04

Surface protection and envelope

Surface preparation, galvanizing, powder coating and panel joints are inspected as separate hold points before the unit is closed up.

  • Sa 2½ surface preparation
  • ISO 1461 galvanizing thickness
  • Powder coating nominal 80 µm
  • EN ISO 2409 cross-cut and EN ISO 6272-1 impact
05Gate 05

MEP and system integration

Power, cooling, fire detection, monitoring, grounding and interlocks are tested as a working system, not as separate packages.

  • Cable schedule, termination and torque check
  • Insulation, continuity and grounding test
  • Cooling pressure, leak and flow verification
  • Fire, alarm, interlock and load-bank test
06Gate 06

Final inspection and release

The MDR is reviewed, open NCRs are closed and the unit is released with a signed certificate, packing list and shipping marks.

  • MDR completeness and witness signatures
  • Punch list and NCR closure
  • Release certificate and nameplate
  • Packing, lifting points and transport bracing

What is inspected, recorded and signed

A typical production plan for a modular unit. The project ITP may add tests for the destination market, the cooling architecture or the client's own specification.

04Manufacturing data record

The records that travel with the unit

The MDR is compiled unit by unit. It is the file a client, an EPC or a third-party inspector reads to understand what was checked, by whom and against which revision.

05North America pathway

Certification is a scope, not a slogan

Modular housing and modular data centers enter North America through different approval routes. The page separates the whole-system route, the third-party factory route and the component certificates.

See the document register
01Modular data centers

UL 2755 / NEC 646

NEC NFPA 70 Article 646 addresses modular data centers. UL 2755, the Outline of Investigation for modular data centers, is the whole-system framework referenced for the evaluation. A project review typically covers electrical distribution, structural and transport integrity, cooling, life safety and cross-system interlocks.

NFPA 70 Article 646 · UL 2755 · IBC / IRC · project AHJ

We prepare the design narrative, test plan and ITP records to support a project-specific evaluation. UL 2755 certification is configuration-specific and is confirmed with the certification body before any claim is made.

02Factory-built modular buildings

Intertek TPIA

Intertek's published modular building program covers plan review, in-plant inspection, the Intertek certification label with state insignia, and ongoing compliance audits. Its reference standards include CSA A277, CSA Z240 MH / RV, CAN/UL 2600, NFPA 1192 and ANSI A119.5.

CSA A277 · CSA Z240 · CAN/UL 2600 · NFPA 1192 · ANSI A119.5

Program participation is agreed per factory and project. The page describes the third-party pathway; it does not state that every LEGEND unit carries an Intertek label.

03Plan review and inspection route

State and local AHJ

US states use different combinations of state plan review, third-party plan review, state inspection and local inspection. The authority having jurisdiction (AHJ) confirms which route applies to the project address and occupancy.

State modular program · local building code · AHJ written confirmation

Approval routes and lead times vary by state, county and city. The project team confirms the route in writing before drawings are frozen.

04Named products, named scope

Component certificates

Framing, panels, generators, transformers, batteries and switchgear can carry their own evaluation or certification. These documents support the design but do not certify the complete cabin or the integrated site.

ICC-ES · UL · EPA · CE · EN 1090 / EN 14509

Each certificate is read against its holder, product family and validity. The certificate register on the compliance page records those limits.

Intertek TPIA service scopePublished program

Plan review

Construction documents checked against the adopted code.

In-plant inspection

Factory quality and compliance audits during production.

Certification label

Intertek label with the state insignia where the program applies.

Ongoing audits

Continued compliance checks after the initial certification.

Referenced standards: CSA A277 · CSA Z240 MH / RV · CAN/UL 2600 · NFPA 1192 · ANSI A119.5

A component certificate is not a whole-unit certificate. A factory certification is not a site approval. A UL 2755 evaluation is configuration-specific. We state the scope of each document rather than turning it into a general compliance claim.

06Scope discipline

How we keep the claim honest

01

One ITP per project

The template is a starting point. The issued ITP follows the product type, destination code and customer specification.

02

Records before release

A unit is released when the MDR is complete and open NCRs are closed, not when the production schedule says it is finished.

03

Scope stated, not implied

Certificates are described by holder, product and configuration. A component certificate is never presented as a whole-unit certificate.

Technology ecosystem

Our modular data center solutions integrate equipment from established technology suppliers. Selection, compatibility and warranty are confirmed project by project.

  • HoneywellBuilding controls, fire and life-safety systems
  • EatonPower distribution and cable management
  • Schneider ElectricPower, UPS and cooling infrastructure

Supplier names describe the equipment ecosystem, not an authorization to use their marks.
